Tip 191 - Inspiring Action 2: Encourage Progress Toward Goals

Through the coaching process, you will request actions that move leaders toward their stated goals. Asking whether actions have been completed is part of the follow up process, demonstrating your commitment to the leader, a skill that is often deficient in leaders.

Keeping the leader on track by guiding and monitoring the action plan, as well as forward progress, are some of the most powerful things coaches can do for leaders. Encourage leaders by frequently providing positive feedback, as it boosts morale, removes doubt, builds self-esteem, and gives leaders a sense of accomplishment. Focus on what you leader does well and relate those successes.
