Tip #55: Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
Does this sound familiar?
• “This is the way we have always done things around here.”
• “Because, we have always done it this way.”
As you explore new opportunities for growth and development, look at your department and/or organizational policies and procedures. Ask yourself and your team, “Why are we doing it this way?” If you hear the answers from above, you have a golden opportunity for change and improvement.
Forward-thinking leaders get out of their comfort zones. They encourage their teams and organizations to “think outside the box,” creating a climate of innovation and experimentation. People are encouraged to try something new, fail, and then learn from it so they can try again.
The message is clear. Get out of your comfort zone, and try something new – even if there is a chance of failure. Sometimes we learn more from our failures than from our successes.
